McFarland School District – The District consistently ranks among the top districts academically in Dane County and in the State of Wisconsin. The most recent report cards from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction recognizes all five of McFarland’s brick-and-mortar schools as “Exceeding Expectations” or “Significantly Exceeding Expectations,” based on composite scores that take into account student test scores, graduation rates and similar benchmarks.

Area Highlights

Lower Yahara River Trail is a nearly 2.5-mile trail that provides an off-road trail connection between Madison, WI and McFarland. It includes the longest inland boardwalk bridge constructed solely for non-motorized transportation in North America.

Babcock County Park is named after Stephen Babcock, Wisconsin dairy scientist, known internationally for discovering the method for determining the percentage of butterfat found in milk. Located on the east side of Lake Waubesa at the outflow of the Yahara River near the Village of McFarland on U.S. Highway 51. Has a boat launch and campgrounds.

McFarland Historical Society offers a well-curated Museum, Norwegian log cabin, and an annex featuring early farming displays located at 5814 Main Street in McFarland. 

Lake Waubesa is one of the four major lakes in Dane County, Wisconsin that surround the city of Madison. Lake Waubesa is a great place to fish, boat, tube, jet ski, water ski.

Secret Places Park is located just north of McFarland on Madison’s far southeast side. This 7 acre neighborhood park includes two basketball courts, volleyball and playground.
