Top 3 Biking Routes in the Madison, WI Area

I don’t know about you but now that the weather is getting warmer, I am ready to get my bike out and go for a long ride! If you are a seasoned biker, finding a good biking route over 10 miles is pretty easy. Here are our top 3 biking routes in the Madison, WI area.

Old Sauk Rd to the Top of Garfoot

Old Sauk Rd to the top of Garfoot in Cross Plains is my favorite ride on the weekends to do early in the morning when the traffic is minimal. It takes approximately 2 hours and the distance is about 28 miles round trip. Try this in the fall where you will see beautiful foliage along the way. If you want to take a detour up the hardest hill I have ever biked up, try Barlow road. If you can ride up this one, you can do anything!

Old Sauk Rd to Cross Plains Through Verona/Mt. Horeb

Old Sauk Rd to Cross Plains on the south side of the Ironman Loop takes you through Verona and Mt. Horeb. It is a challenging 60 miles out and back with quite a few hills but very beautiful route. If you aren’t ready to do 60 miles, you can keep going and finish the Ironman loop on the north side (the route above). The entire Ironman Loop is about 40 miles and takes about 3.5 hours.

Verona to Downtown Madison

When I lived in Verona, I loved to take this route downtown to the Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings. It is mostly bike path so you don’t need to worry about biking in the roads and is relatively flat with a slight decline on the way there. It is part of the Military Ridge path and the Southwest Commuter Path and is about 12 miles each way.
