Stoughton Area School District (SASD) is an award-winning school system that consistently posts a high graduation rate and has been recognized nationally for its educational practices. There are three elementary schools, one middle level school, one high school and a virtual school through a consortium of other area school districts. SASD encompasses the City of Stoughton and parts of the towns of Albion, Christiana, Cottage Grove, Deerfield, Dunkirk, Dunn, Pleasant Springs and Rutland in Dane County, as well as parts of the towns of Porter and Union in Rock County.

Area Highlights

Lake Kegonsa State Park is a state park that consists of forest, prairie, and wetlands. There is a lake for swimming, fishing & boating.
Viking County Park – located on the Yahara River downstream of Lake Kegonsa. The park has many accessible locations for shore fishing, offers a small reservable picnic shelter (non-electric), a fenced dog exercise area including two dog beaches, and ideal areas for family outings.
Livsreise – Norwegian Heritage Center – Livsreise (lifs-rye-sa) translates to “Life’s Journey.” It is a generational journey, encompassing not only the physical journey Norwegian emigrants traveled, but also the continued journey as generations embrace their Norwegian Heritage in Stoughton, Wisconsin and across the nation. The Livsreise logo is inspired by the åttebladrose, or eight petal rose, commonly found in Norwegian textiles.
Stoughton Veterans Memorial – Honors those who have sacrificed so much, especially those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, their lives, to purchase our freedom.

Syttende Mai Festival – Although this event was cancelled in 2020, the annual Syttende Mai Festival in Stoughton, Wisconsin is a three-day celebration of Stoughton’s Norwegian heritage and culture. The Syttende Mai takes place annually on the weekend closest to Norway’s Constitution Day, May 17th.
