Supporting Clean Access to Water

Did you know that almost 780 million people live without access to clean water, and more than 2.5 billion need improved sanitation?

World Water Day is an annual United Nations observance day held on 22 March that highlights the importance of fresh water. The day is used to advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

This year, The Clean Lakes Alliance is teaching kids about the importance of water through interactive online modules. Although the online materials focus on younger students, the message behind the educational materials is something the Clean Lakes Alliance wants to emphasize to everyone. Get involved with the Clean Lakes Alliance today!

Here are some ideas on what you can do to conserve and keep water clean.

  • Make a rain garden or install rain barrels.
  • Be mindful of how long you take a shower
  • Don’t leave the water running when you brush your teeth or wash your hands.
  • Never flush expired or unwanted medicine down the toilet or drain
  • Fix any leaks from cars and collect oil by putting liner on driveway

Another way you can help is by supporting an organization that promotes clean water, reliable toilets and good hygiene. Check out this World News article with the list.
